MUMBAI — Former India captain and top-order stalwart Ajinkya Rahane on Thursday announced his retirement from all forms of international and domestic cricket, ending an era defined by technique, grit, and selflessness on the pitch.
The 38-year-old veteran, affectionately known across the cricketing fraternity as 'Jinx,' shared the decision via a heartfelt video message posted on his official Instagram account.
Drawing a parallel between his signature batting composure and his decision to step away, Rahane reflected on the significance of choosing the right moment.
"The reality of life is that everything has a beginning and everything has an end. When the time comes, you simply have to respect it and move forward," Rahane said in his video address. "I have always relied on timing in my batting, and I have always understood its importance. Today, I feel the timing is right for me to move on and announce my retirement from international cricket and all formats."
Tracing his roots back to Dombivli in Maharashtra’s Thane district, Rahane reflected warmly on his journey from a young boy traveling in local trains to representing India on the world stage. He stressed that throughout his career, he approached every opportunity with unyielding honesty and dedication.
While stepping away from active playing duties, Rahane hinted that his association with the sport is far from over, opening the door for a potential transition into coaching or mentorship.
"My journey with the game does not end here," he noted, signaling a fresh chapter ahead.
Concluding his emotional message, Rahane expressed deep gratitude to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), his family, and his wife, Radhika, for their unwavering support throughout his career.
