NEW DELHI — Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar met with US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor at Nirvachan Sadan on Wednesday to discuss strategic pathways for deepening bilateral cooperation in election management and capacity building for electoral staff.

According to an official statement issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI), the high-level meeting focused on enhancing administrative training frameworks and expanding joint institutional exchanges. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening democratic values, aligning their discussions with the objectives outlined during the International Conference on Inclusive and Accessible Democratic Elections and Management (IICDEM) 2026.

Beyond bilateral ties, the meeting highlighted India’s growing role in global democratic governance. Gyanesh Kumar currently serves as the Chairman of the Council of Member States of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA)—an intergovernmental body dedicated to supporting democratic institutions worldwide.

The ECI noted that the dialogue reflects India’s broader initiative to engage with international partners and electoral management bodies to share best practices, improve institutional capacity, and advance accessible voting processes globally.
