DURG: A court in Chhattisgarh's Durg district has ordered the police to investigate former Indian cricketer Rajesh Chauhan after he was accused of defrauding a man of over ₹15 lakh with the promise of a lucrative transport contract.
Judicial Magistrate First Class Aishwarya Diwan issued the directive following a petition filed by complainant Dinkar Vishwamitra under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The Mohan Nagar police have been instructed to carry out a formal investigation and submit their final report to the court.
According to the complaint, Chauhan used his stature as an ex-international cricketer to build trust, claiming his firm—Govind Transport Company—had secured a contract with Jindal Steel Limited in Odisha to transport iron ore.
Vishwamitra alleged that Chauhan showed him official-looking work orders and convinced him to invest as a partner. Believing the deal was legitimate, Vishwamitra signed an agreement in July 2021, paying an initial ₹2.51 lakh upfront and later transferring an additional ₹15.01 lakh into the company's account.
