MUMBAI — The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, featuring a maiden national call-up for domestic off-spin all-rounder Saransh Jain and the return of veteran Ravindra Jadeja.

The Shubman Gill-led side is slated to begin their campaign in Sri Lanka on August 15, marking India’s return to World Test Championship (WTC) action following a home series defeat to South Africa late last year.

Saransh Rewarded After Impressive 'A' Tour

The spotlight of Tuesday's announcement was 31-year-old Saransh Jain, who earned his maiden India call-up on the back of consistent performances in domestic cricket and a standout tour with India A in Sri Lanka. Jain recently impressed selectors by scoring an unbeaten 70 and taking six wickets in the second unofficial Test against Sri Lanka A.

His inclusion comes as Washington Sundar continues his recovery from a right hamstring strain sustained during the Lord's ODI against England, ruling him out of selection for the opening Test. Overall, Jain boasts a strong first-class record, accumulating 2,223 runs at an average of 31.75 alongside 188 wickets across 54 matches.

Jadeja and Bumrah Back in Red-Ball Setup

The squad also marks the return of seasoned all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who makes his first appearance in the Test setup since November 2025 after recovering from a tennis elbow injury sustained during IPL 2026.

Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has also been named in the 15-man squad. However, the BCCI clarified that Bumrah’s final availability will depend on a fitness clearance following an injury concern during the recently concluded ODI series against England.

WTC Context and Schedule

India currently sit fifth in the World Test Championship standings, just above sixth-placed Sri Lanka, making the two-Test fixture crucial for both teams' hopes in the current WTC cycle.

Before the official series begins, the Indian contingent will tune up with a four-day warm-up match in Colombo starting August 7.

The first Test is set to take place at the Galle International Cricket Stadium from August 15 to 19, followed by the second and final Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) in Colombo from August 23 to 27.
