India and US Advance Indian Ocean Strategic Venture to Strengthen Regional Security and Connectivity

Start writing your article here…NEW DELHI — India and the United States have taken another step toward bolstering bilateral security ties in the Indo-Pacific, engaging in strategic talks focused on deepening maritime cooperation, regional infrastructure, and connectivity across the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).

Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri held a high-level dialogue with US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison M. Hooker to review and advance the India-US Indian Ocean Strategic Venture (IOSV). The initiative serves as a core bilateral framework designed to align the maritime goals of both nations with the priorities of regional partners.

Confirming the development on social media platform X, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the bilateral exchange focused on driving actionable and complementary initiatives across critical sectors in the region.

"Foreign Secretary @VikramMisri held a productive call with US Under Secretary of State Allison M. Hooker to advance discussions on the India-US Indian Ocean Strategic Venture (IOSV) initiative, launched by the leaders of the two countries in February 2025," Jaiswal noted. "Both sides discussed opportunities for practical cooperation and complementarity in the Indian Ocean Region, including maritime security, strategic infrastructure and connectivity, in line with the priorities of partner countries."

The IOSV initiative was formally inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump during high-level summit talks in Washington, DC, in February 2025. The framework aims to reinforce regional stability, safeguard critical sea lanes, and promote transparent infrastructure investments tailored to the security dynamics of the Indian Ocean.

The latest discussions underscore the growing strategic convergence between New Delhi and Washington as both powers work to secure key maritime passages, build resilient supply networks, and foster sustainable infrastructure partnerships across the Indo-Pacific.
