NEW DELHI: An IndiGo flight traveling from Doha to Bengaluru was forced to make an unscheduled diversion to Muscat, Oman, after a pilot suddenly fell ill while airborne.
The aircraft, operating as flight 6E 1302, departed from Doha. According to flight tracking data, the Airbus A320neo aircraft took off slightly behind schedule. While cruising mid-air, the pilot-in-command reported feeling unwell, triggering an urgent need for medical intervention.
Prioritizing passenger and crew safety, the flight crew followed standard operating protocols and declared an emergency to secure a prompt diversion. The flight landed safely at Muscat International Airport, where a waiting medical team immediately attended to the affected crew member. Sources noted that the pilot's condition stabilized following immediate medical care.
In an official statement addressing the incident, an IndiGo spokesperson expressed regret over the unexpected delay. "IndiGo flight 6E 1302, operating from Doha to Bengaluru, was diverted to Muscat due to an urgent requirement of medical attention for one of the operating crew members. The said crew member was attended to by a medical team upon landing and is feeling better now," the airline stated.
To minimize passenger inconvenience, the airline arranged an alternate aircraft accompanied by a fresh set of crew members to fly the stranded passengers onward to Bengaluru. Ground staff provided refreshments and regular updates to all travelers waiting at Muscat airport. IndiGo reiterated that the safety of its passengers, crew, and fleet remains its utmost priority.
