NEW DELHI — The Indian Navy’s sail training vessel, INS Sudarshini, has officially departed Boston to cross the Atlantic toward Ponta Delgada in the Azores, Portugal, wrapping up an impactful month-long deployment across the United States.
The three-masted barque set sail from Boston on July 25 as part of its ongoing Lokayan 26 voyage, a transoceanic initiative launched to strengthen global maritime partnerships, showcase India’s rich seafaring heritage, and train naval cadets in seamanship.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Defence, the vessel served as a diplomatic ambassador at sea, representing India at the prestigious SAIL 250 celebrations and the International Naval Review 250, commemorating the 250th anniversary of United States independence.
Showcasing Maritime Goodwill Across the US East Coast
Under the command of Commander Ravikanth Nandoori, INS Sudarshini made stops at several major American ports, including Norfolk, Baltimore, New York, and Boston.
During these calls, the vessel participated in high-profile engagements, such as the SAIL 250 Maryland events and the Baltimore Airshow. The crew opened its doors to high-ranking international naval officers, local dignitaries, and members of the Indian diaspora, highlighting India’s ongoing commitment to open-seas cooperation and international goodwill.
