WASHINGTON/DUBAI: A vessel contracted by the United States came under direct attack near the strategic Strait of Hormuz earlier this week, following a coordinated barrage of Iranian drones and missiles, according to US media reports.
Citing sources familiar with the matter, reports indicate that the assault involved at least four Iranian drones and a missile. One of the incoming projectiles made a direct impact on the ship as it navigated the crucial regional waterway. Several American personnel were reportedly on board at the time of the incident.
The attack left members of the crew with minor injuries, primarily related to smoke inhalation. The wounded individuals are currently receiving medical care in an undisclosed Gulf nation.
This latest maritime escalation unfolds against the backdrop of mounting tensions between Washington and Tehran.
