Kurdistan Officials Point to Cross-Border Strike
According to statements released by the regional Counter-Terrorism Directorate, preliminary investigations indicate that the drones were launched from across the Iranian border toward targets near the regional capital of Erbil.
Denouncing the deliberate strike, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani described the incident on social media as a "reckless and unacceptable attack" that constitutes a "dangerous escalation and a direct threat to the security and stability of the Kurdistan region".
Tehran swiftly denied involvement in the drone operation.
Baghdad Orders Official Probe
In response to the breach of sovereignty, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi directed federal security authorities to establish a specialized committee tasked with identifying the launch origins and responsible parties.
The incident follows a broader pattern of heightened tension across northern Iraq, where Kurdish territory—home to foreign diplomatic missions, energy infrastructure, and political dissidents—has frequently come under fire amid wider Middle Eastern regional conflicts.
