The sharp exchange occurred after Jaishankar and Liberia's Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti concluded their joint press statements following a meeting of the Group of Friends on Safety and Security of Shipping and Seafarers. As the briefing concluded, a Pakistani journalist stood up and shouted a loaded question directed at the Indian minister: "When will your government stop sponsoring terrorism in Pakistan?"

Without missing a beat, Jaishankar offered a withering and instant rebuttal. "A terrorist country is asking me that question. Come on," he remarked, firmly dismissing the absurdity of the premise.

India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Harish Parvathaneni, immediately stepped in to back the External Affairs Minister's stance, addressing the journalist directly: "You have heard your reply. You have heard your response, loud and clear."

The dramatic confrontation followed a tense atmosphere surrounding Pakistani officials at the international body. Just a day prior, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif faced uncomfortable scrutiny when journalists outside the UN premises questioned him regarding his country's history of harboring prominent terror figures, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief Hafiz Saeed. While Sharif dodged the inquiries and hurried past reporters, India's leadership once again demonstrated its policy of calling out cross-border state-sponsored terrorism directly on global platforms.
