NEW DELHI — Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday targeted Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, asking him to stay present in the House and face Home Minister Amit Shah during parliamentary debates, according to a report by Alter News.
Rijiju pointed out that Rahul Gandhi had been persistently demanding a detailed response from the Home Minister over recent student protests and police actions against demonstrators. However, now that the government has agreed to a full-fledged debate with Amit Shah set to reply on the floor of the House, the Opposition leader must participate directly rather than avoiding proceedings.
"Don't Run Away From Debate"
Taking to social media platform X, Rijiju posted a clip from the House along with the hashtags #Rahul_Bhagna_Nahi and #BhagoMat, urging the Congress leader to engage in constructive dialogue.
"Rahul Gandhi demanded a response from Home Minister Shri Amit Shah ji for days. Now that the Home Minister is ready to answer every point in detail, he must not run away," Rijiju stated.
The Minister added that he has repeatedly requested the Leader of Opposition on the floor of the Lok Sabha to confront the Home Minister directly in Parliament and raise whatever concerns he wants resolved.
Tensions and Deadlock in Monsoon Session
The confrontation comes amidst an ongoing stalemate between the Treasury benches and Opposition parties during the Monsoon Session of Parliament. Frequent disruptions have hampered legislative business as Opposition members continue to press their demands over police action and student demonstrations.
While the Centre has offered a structured debate on the issue—with Amit Shah slated to deliver a comprehensive government statement—attempts to break the logjam have faced resistance from Opposition ranks. Meanwhile, floor leaders from Opposition parties scheduled strategy meetings to map out their next steps in the House.
