NEW DELHI — In a major bureaucratic shake-up, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) appointed senior IAS officer Naresh Pal Gangwar as the new Secretary of the Department of Higher Education on Thursday night. Gangwar takes over from Vineet Joshi, who has been reassigned as Secretary of the Department of Panchayati Raj.
The high-level transfer comes during mounting public pressure and a nearly month-long protest at Jantar Mantar over the NEET-UG paper leak controversy, where students continue to demand educational reforms and accountability.
To expedite justice, the government is cracking down on exam fraud through new judicial measures. Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement regarding swift penalties for paper leaks, the Delhi High Court designated a new Fast Track Court at the Rouse Avenue Court Complex specifically to handle offences under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.
Judicial officer Anu Grover Baliga has been transferred from Tis Hazari Court to preside as Special Judge over the newly established court. Under orders from Registrar General Arun Bhardwaj, all pending cases tied to public examination leaks will be consolidated and transferred to this designated fast-track court.
