NEW DELHI — In a major step toward expanding the role of women in India's elite security forces, the National Security Guard (NSG) Training Academy in Manesar has launched its first-ever Mahila Commando Conversion Course (MCCC).

The landmark 12-week specialized program is designed to transform select female personnel drawn from State Police Forces and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) into fully qualified counter-terrorism commandos.

Rigorous 12-Week Specialized Curriculum

The intensive program exposes trainees to demanding operational standards. Over three months, candidates will undergo rigorous physical conditioning alongside advanced instruction in high-risk tactical skills:

  • Advanced Marksmanship: Precision firing and reflex shooting with specialized weaponry.

  • Tactical Intervention: Room-clearing, close-quarter battle (CQB), and urban warfare tactics.

  • Hostage Rescue: Complex entry and extraction techniques in high-threat environments.

  • Specialized Counter-Terror Operations: Technical proficiency required for rapid-response scenarios.

Traditionally, elite counter-terrorist roles in India have been overwhelmingly male-dominated. Officials emphasized that the MCCC goes beyond symbolic representation by instilling the strict operational capabilities necessary for complex, high-risk missions.

Strengthening National Interoperability

By opening its world-class training framework to state police units and central forces, the NSG aims to build a broader, decentralized network of elite women commandos across the nation.

According to security officials, training personnel from diverse agencies under a unified, high-standard curriculum directly improves joint-agency coordination during crisis situations.

"Counter-terrorism operations often require a coordinated response involving multiple agencies. By training women personnel from different forces under a common specialized program, the initiative seeks to develop a more integrated and distributed operational capability across India's security architecture," an official familiar with the program stated.

Upon graduating from the Manesar facility, the commandos will return to their respective parent units equipped with advanced tactical skills. This distributed model is expected to strengthen local response capabilities across various states while reducing reliance on centralized emergency deployments during regional security incidents.
