NEW DELHI — Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially released the autobiography of former President Ram Nath Kovind, titled 'Triumph of the Indian Republic: My Life, My Struggles', at a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.
Addressing a distinguished gathering of dignitaries, Parliamentarians, and public figures, the Prime Minister highlighted the inspiring trajectory of the former Head of State, describing his life story as a testament to the resilience and opportunity embedded within Indian democracy.
According to a formal statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the memoir offers a deeply personal narrative tracing Kovind's upbringing, perseverance, and public service—from humble beginnings in rural Uttar Pradesh to his election as the 14th President of the Republic of India.
A Journey Rooted in Public Service
Born on October 1, 1945, into a modest Koli family in Paraunkh village in Kanpur Dehat district, Uttar Pradesh, Kovind’s path to the highest constitutional office in the nation was forged through decades of legal practice and political grassroots work.
After joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 1991, Kovind took on key organizational roles, including serving as the chief of the BJP Dalit Morcha between 1998 and 2002 and as president of the All-India Koli Samaj. Though he faced early electoral setbacks in the Ghatampur and Bhognipur Assembly contests in Uttar Pradesh, his dedicated service paved the way for a distinguished parliamentary career.
In April 1994, Kovind was elected to the Rajya Sabha representing Uttar Pradesh, serving two consecutive six-year terms until March 2006. During his tenure in the Upper House, he actively focused on legal reform, social justice, and rural development issues.
Milestone Presidency
Prior to assuming the presidency, Kovind served as the Governor of Bihar from 2015 to 2017, where he was widely recognized for his dignified oversight of gubernatorial responsibilities.
In July 2017, Kovind was sworn in as the 14th President of India, serving his full five-year term until 2022. His tenure marked a historical milestone, making him both the first leader from Uttar Pradesh and the first member of the BJP to occupy Rashtrapati Bhavan.
