NEW DELHI — In an engaging interaction with participants of the Viksit Vibrant Village Program 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed the government's commitment to transforming India's border regions, describing these communities not as remote outposts, but as the country’s "first villages."
Welcoming youth representatives who gathered from roughly 250 districts across India, the Prime Minister lauded the rapid growth of the Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) initiative. He highlighted how the platform has evolved from its inception into a robust national network of millions of proactive young citizens driving ground-level change.
Bridging Classrooms and Border Realities
Reflecting on the vision behind sending young citizens on immersion trips to remote border regions in Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, PM Modi noted that out of three lakh applicants, over 400 youth were selected to experience frontline life firsthand.
"Connecting your culture with the local life of frontier regions is the finest example of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat," the Prime Minister remarked. He emphasized that direct exposure to border life offers lessons in resilience and patriotism that no textbook or digital screen can ever replicate.
Recalling his personal travels through remote border zones before taking public office, PM Modi spoke warmly of his long-standing tradition of spending Diwali with soldiers stationed at the frontlines. He paid homage to the armed forces on Kargil Vijay Diwas, praising the unwavering patriotic spirit maintained by border residents despite past decades of administrative neglect.
Flipping the Script: From 'Last' to 'First' Villages
Critiquing previous policy approaches that treated frontier hamlets as forgotten "last villages" devoid of basic infrastructure, PM Modi underlined a fundamental paradigm shift under his administration.
"Our border settlements are no longer the last points of India—they are our first villages, where the morning’s initial rays and the National Flag greet the country," PM Modi stated.
He highlighted the arrival of essential modern amenities—including all-weather roads, grid electricity, tap water connections, LPG cylinders, and high-speed internet—as transformational milestones that are actively boosting local agricultural markets, curbing migration, and improving quality of life.
A Call to Action for Border Tourism
With infrastructure expanding rapidly, the Prime Minister urged the returning youth to act as ambassadors for frontier regions by boosting border tourism and local economies:
The 100-Peer Challenge: PM Modi directed every participant to share their authentic field experiences with at least 100 peers.
Digital Promotion: He encouraged collaboration with digital content creators to showcase border heritage, local crafts, and cuisine.
Academic & Family Travel: He called on students to advocate for school or university field trips to border zones and plan personal family travel to these historic frontiers.
Concluding his address, Prime Minister Modi expressed immense faith in the younger generation, calling them both the architect and the main beneficiary of a fully developed nation (Viksit Bharat).
"When our youth power connects directly with the country's real challenges and solutions on the ground," PM Modi declared, "the future of India will undoubtedly be bright."
