The 21-year-old Indian prodigy, who entered the contest on the back of impressive runs in the St. Louis Rapid & Blitz and the Sinquefield Cup, completely outplayed his German counterpart across classical and rapid formats to build an unbeatable lead before the final blitz games were even played.

Breakaway in Classical and Tactical Mastery

The semifinal clash initially saw a tense start with a drawn opening Classical game. However, Praggnanandhaa asserted his dominance in the second Classical game. Navigating through a volatile position out of a Bishop's Opening where Keymer briefly held an attacking advantage, Pragg set a sharp tactical trap. Keymer faltered in time pressure, miscalculating a sequence that allowed Praggnanandhaa to trade a knight for a rook, leaving Black with a trapped rook and a lethal passed pawn for White.

After navigating through the second time control, Praggnanandhaa pressed his advantage to the brink of checkmate, forcing Keymer to resign on the 55th move. The classical victory handed the Indian prodigy a vital 9-3 lead under the GCT weighted scoring system.
