CHANDIGARH — On the eve of India’s 80th Independence Day, twelve personnel from the Punjab Police were named recipients of prestigious national honours for their devotion to duty, exemplary bravery, and distinguished service.
Among the awardees, Inspector Baljit Singh received the nation’s highest law enforcement honour—the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service—in recognition of his exceptional career record and selfless devotion to public safety.
The remaining eleven personnel were conferred the Medal for Meritorious Service for their sustained operational excellence and commitment to police duty. The list of meritorious service awardees includes:
Inspectors General of Police: Babulal Meena and S. Bupathi
Superintendent of Police: Navreet Singh Virk
Deputy Superintendents of Police: Subhash Chand, Jasvir Singh, Karnail Singh, and Sanjeev Kumar
Assistant Commissioner of Police: Gagandeep Singh
Inspectors: Nirmal Singh and Rashpal Singh
Assistant Sub-Inspector: Nirmal Singh
In neighboring union territory affairs, Sub-Inspector Bharat Singh of the Chandigarh Police was also awarded the Medal for Meritorious Service for his commendable work in crime prevention and public outreach.
The announcements form part of the Ministry of Home Affairs' nationwide rollout of Independence Day honours. Across the country, 1,057 personnel spanning Police, Fire Services, Home Guard, Civil Defence, and Correctional Services received recognition this year. The national honours breakdown includes 301 Gallantry Medals for acts of conspicuous bravery, 92 President’s Medals for Distinguished Service, and 664 Medals for Meritorious Service.
