SAWAI MADHOPUR, RAJASTHAN — Wildlife enthusiasts and forest officials at Rajasthan's world-famous Ranthambore Tiger Reserve have reason to celebrate following the sighting of Tigress T-127 alongside two newborn cubs in the park's Zone 7 area.
The sighting offers an encouraging boost to tiger conservation efforts in the region, reaffirming Ranthambore’s standing as one of India's premier tiger habitats.
Close Surveillance Pays Off
Forest department personnel had been closely monitoring T-127 for several weeks after field teams noticed subtle changes in her physical appearance and movement patterns, suggesting she had recently given birth. Park rangers deployed continuous field patrols, camera traps, and scientific tracking tools to confirm the big cat's condition.
The dedicated surveillance efforts bore fruit when cameras and field trackers captured images of T-127 moving through the terrain accompanied by two small cubs.
Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Manas Singh confirmed the development, noting that while two cubs have been visually confirmed, the full size of the litter remains unknown.
"We saw Tigress T-127 with two cubs, but not all of her cubs have been captured on camera yet. Consequently, the official count will only be declared following thorough verification," DFO Singh explained.
Priority on Protection and Habitat Security
Forest officials clarified that tiger litters often comprise three or four cubs, meaning additional offspring could still be hiding in the dense underbrush. Department personnel will maintain high-level surveillance across Zone 7 to monitor T-127’s territory and verify the exact number of cubs in her litter.
The forest department emphasized that safeguarding the new family is its immediate operational priority.
"Ensuring the uninterrupted growth and protection of these cubs remains our highest priority," Singh added. "We are keeping strict monitoring protocols and heightened security measures in place throughout her range to guarantee the entire family's safety."
