CHENNAI — Playback singer A.R. Ameen, son of renowned Oscar-winning music composer A.R. Rahman, escaped with minor injuries after being involved in a road accident in Chennai on Monday morning.
The incident occurred near the bustling Kathipara flyover in Guindy—a major transit junction in the city. According to preliminary reports, Ameen was travelling from Koyambedu along with a friend when their vehicle collided head-on with an oncoming car coming from the opposite direction.
The impact caused minor damage to both vehicles, leaving occupants in shock. Emergency services and local police rushed to the scene shortly after the crash.
"All individuals involved in the incident, including A.R. Ameen, his co-passenger, and the driver of the second vehicle, sustained only minor injuries," said a police officer handling the initial inquiry. Medical assistance was provided, and no severe or life-threatening injuries were reported.
Local traffic police have launched an investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding the collision, including checking whether lane discipline or speed played a role at the busy junction.
News of the accident spread quickly across social media, causing concern among music fans and industry well-wishers.
Ameen, who followed in his father’s footsteps, made his debut as a playback singer in director Mani Ratnam’s 2015 hit O Kadhal Kanmani with the track Maula Salli Wasallim. Over the years, he has built a distinct musical footprint, contributing to multilingual film soundtracks, performing alongside his father on global concert tours, and collaborating on independent tracks—most recently featuring in Bheegi Bheegi with Jasleen Royal, Dulquer Salmaan, and Mrunal Thakur.
