HYDERABAD: Actor Nivin Pauly and Mamitha Baiju’s runaway box office hit, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, has achieved a massive new milestone following its digital release. The Malayalam romantic comedy has officially emerged as the most-watched non-Hindi film in India during its opening weekend on streaming for 2026, according to the latest data from Ormax StreamView.

Streaming on JioHotstar, the film pulled in an impressive 5.4 million views during its opening weekend window spanning from October 2 to October 4. This metric accounts for unique audiences across India who spent more than 30 minutes watching the film in any of its available language versions.

Adding another feather to its cap, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit has also been crowned the most-liked theatrical film across all Indian languages in 2026, boasting an exceptional Ormax Power Rating (OPR) of 92—a testament to the immense critical and public acclaim it garnered during its theatrical run.

Originally released in theatres on August 21, the film quickly evolved into a major Malayalam blockbuster, captivating viewers with its heartfelt narrative, sharp humor, and relatable family dynamics. Directed by Girish A.D., the movie features Nivin Pauly as Justin and Mamitha Baiju as Ashley. The plot traces Ashley and her family as they relocate to a new neighborhood, where she crosses paths with her older neighbor, Justin. Their relationship gradually blossoms amidst community gossip, cultural nuances, and familial expectations.

The movie draws its unique culturl backdrop from the traditional 'Kudumba Unit' system prevalent in many Kerala Catholic communities, where neighborhood families convene regularly for prayer and community building.

The film's transition from a theatrical powerhouse to an OTT chart-topper underscores the widespread appeal of its refreshing storytelling. Produced under the banners of Bhavana Studios, Fahadh Faasil and Friends, and Working Class Hero, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit also features an ensemble supporting cast including Sangeeth Prathap, Vinay Forrt, and Bindu Panikkar.
