NEW DELHI — The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has officially released the much-awaited notification for the Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) Examination. Aimed at filling approximately 2,536 Group-C vacancies in various government ministries, departments, and constitutional bodies, the recruitment drive opens doors for young aspirants seeking reputable civil service roles such as Lower Divisional Clerks (LDC), Junior Secretariat Assistants (JSA), and Data Entry Operators (DEO).

Vacancy & Pay Scale Structure

Selected candidates will be placed under lucrative Pay Levels aligned with the 7th Pay Commission:

  • Lower Division Clerk (LDC) / Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA): Level-2 (₹19,900 – ₹63,200)

  • Data Entry Operator (DEO) / Grade 'A': Level-4 & Level-5 (₹25,500 – ₹92,300)

Eligibility Criteria & Age Limits

  • Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed the 12th Standard (10+2) or equivalent examination from a recognized board or university. For specific DEO posts in designated ministries, a background in Science with Mathematics is mandatory.

  • Age Limits: Applicants must be between 18 and 27 years of age as of August 1, 2026. Standard category-wise age relaxations apply: 3 years for OBC, 5 years for SC/ST, and up to 15 years for PwBD candidates.

Examination Scheme

The selection process comprises two rigorous tiers of Computer-Based Examinations (CBE):

  1. Tier-I: Consists of 100 objective-type questions carrying 200 marks, divided evenly across English Language, General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude, and General Awareness, to be completed in 60 minutes.

  2. Tier-II: Comprises mathematical abilities, reasoning, English language comprehension, general awareness, a computer knowledge test, and essential skill/typing tests.

Candidates across Assam and the Northeast can select designated examination centers located in Dibrugarh, Guwahati (Dispur), Jorhat, Silchar, and Tezpur. Aspirants are advised to complete their submissions through the official SSC portal ahead of the deadline.
