CRPF Officer Shoots Two Colleagues Dead, Injures One Before Killing Himself in Assam's Nagaon

NAGAON (ASSAM): In a shocking incident of fratricide within paramilitary ranks, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) allegedly opened fire on his colleagues at a battalion camp in Assam’s Nagaon district on Tuesday morning, killing two personnel and leaving another critically injured, before shooting himself dead.

The harrowing incident unfolded around 7:00 AM at the CRPF 34 Battalion camp situated in the Katimari area of Nagaon. According to senior police officials, the shooter was identified as ASI/GD Ballani Premabaram, who was deployed on guard duty at the camp's main entry gate.

For reasons yet to be officially established, ASI Premabaram suddenly turned his service weapon on fellow personnel stationed nearby, indiscriminately firing multiple rounds.

Confirming the details, Nagaon Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Paramita Sarkar stated that two personnel died on the spot due to fatal bullet injuries.

The deceased officers have been identified as Sub-Inspector (SI/GD) Ramnawal Singh Yadav and Head Constable (HV/GD) Vishnu Prasad Baghel.

A third personnel, identified as ASI Mane Govind Sripul, sustained severe gunshot wounds during the firing. He was immediately rushed from the camp premises to a nearby private hospital, where emergency medical care is currently being administered.

Following the burst of gunfire, ASI Premabaram turned the weapon on himself and died instantly at the scene.

Upon receiving information about the shooting, top brass from both the CRPF and Assam Police rushed to the Katimari camp to secure the perimeter and assess the situation. The crime scene was cordoned off to facilitate forensic analysis and ballistic investigation.

Police authorities confirmed that an official departmental inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the triggering cause behind the sudden violent outburst, including whether personal stress, work pressure, or an interpersonal dispute led to the tragedy.
