GUWAHATI — The flood situation in Assam remains critical, with six fresh fatalities reported—four in Sivasagar and two in Charaideo—bringing the season's total death toll to 47. Continuous rainfall across the region continues to swell major rivers, threatening to further worsen the inundation.

According to the latest bulletin from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), over 7.21 lakh people across 883 villages in 37 revenue circles are currently battling floodwaters.

Upper Assam Worst Hit

The deluge has concentrated heavily in Upper Assam, where three districts account for the vast majority of those impacted:

  • Sivasagar: 3.75 lakh people affected (worst-hit district)

  • Charaideo: 1.86 lakh people affected

  • Jorhat: 1.15 lakh people affected

Other affected districts include Golaghat, Hojai, Kamrup, Dibrugarh, Nagaon, Kamrup Metropolitan, Karbi Anglong, and Tinsukia.

Rivers Above Danger Level & Relief Measures

Several major rivers continue to flow above the red mark, including the Burhidihing (Khowang), Kikhor (Sivasagar), Desang (Nanglamuraghat), Dhansiri (Numaligarh), and Kushiyara (Sribhumi).

Over 25,375 hectares of cropland remain submerged state-wide. In response, authorities have operationalized 103 relief camps providing shelter to 24,124 displaced residents, alongside 255 relief distribution centers delivering essential supplies. Widespread damage to roads, bridges, and infrastructure has also been recorded across multiple regions.
