NEW DELHI — India’s gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) mop-up recorded a robust growth of 15.4 per cent year-on-year in July 2026, crossing the ₹2.11 lakh crore milestone, according to official data released by the Goods and Services Tax Department on Saturday.
The sharp uptick was anchored by a massive surge in import-related GST revenues alongside steady domestic consumer demand. In July 2025, gross GST revenue stood at ₹1.83 lakh crore.
Breakup of Revenues & Net Mop-Up
Domestic gross GST revenue expanded 10.1 per cent to ₹1.45 lakh crore in July 2026, compared to ₹1.31 lakh crore reported in the same month last year. Meanwhile, revenue collected from imported goods registered a significant 28.8 per cent leap, reaching ₹66,511 crore up from ₹51,626 crore in July 2025.
After factoring in tax refunds, the net GST revenue for July 2026 rose 15.8 per cent year-on-year to ₹1.81 lakh crore, up from ₹1.57 lakh crore a year ago.
Net Domestic GST Revenue: Increased 10.5 per cent to ₹1.27 lakh crore.
Net Customs-Related GST Revenue: Climbed 30.3 per cent to ₹54,223 crore.
Total Tax Refunds: Stood at ₹29,968 crore, up 13.1 per cent from ₹26,495 crore in July 2025.
Domestic Refunds: Rose 7.3 per cent to ₹17,680 crore.
Export Refunds (via ICEGATE): Jumped 22.7 per cent to ₹12,288 crore.
April–July FY27 Cumulative Performance
The financial year performance highlights sustained momentum in national tax realization. During the April–July 2026 period, cumulative gross GST collections climbed 10.1 per cent to ₹8.43 lakh crore, compared to ₹7.66 lakh crore collected during the corresponding four-month window in the previous fiscal. Net GST revenue for the same period increased 9.2 per cent to ₹7.21 lakh crore from ₹6.61 lakh crore.

Revenue performance across Indian states demonstrated distinct regional dynamics, with major manufacturing and commercial hubs posting strong double-digit growth while a few states experienced contractions.
