HYDERABAD — Bollywood actor Kartik Aaryan has stepped forward to assist disaster relief efforts in Assam, contributing ₹1 crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund as the northeastern state continues to grapple with severe monsoonal flooding.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma publicly expressed his appreciation for the actor's contribution, praising the timely gesture as citizens across several districts contend with widespread displacement and loss of property.
"Truly heartened by your generous contribution, @TheAaryanKartik," Chief Minister Sarma shared on X. "Your support will go a long way in helping the people of Assam during these testing times." The Chief Minister's Office also released an official note acknowledging the donation and thanking the actor for helping bolster state relief machinery.
Persistent Rainfall & Weather Warnings
The financial support comes as parts of Assam face continuous downpours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has projected heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by severe thunderstorms across several districts of Assam and adjoining northeastern states.
An orange alert remains active for Tinsukia district in Assam, as well as neighbouring districts in Nagaland—including Mon, Mokokchung, and Wokha—where severe weather conditions threaten to aggravate runoff into vulnerable low-lying regions. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has urged residents to maintain vigilance and adhere strictly to localized safety advisories.
Ground Situation Remains Severe
The humanitarian crisis on the ground remains critical. ASDMA's latest updates confirm two fresh drowning casualties in Sivasagar district, raising the flood-related mortality count across the state to 80 this season.
More than 2.12 lakh residents remain affected across the primary hit districts of Charaideo, Sivasagar, Golaghat, and Jorhat:
Charaideo: Continues to be the most impacted area, with nearly 80,000 residents affected.
Sivasagar & Jorhat: Account for over 71,000 and 40,000 affected citizens, respectively.
Multi-agency emergency teams—including the Indian Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), state police, and local civil administrations—are conducting ongoing rescue and relief operations. Over 100 relief camps and essential distribution centers have been operationalized across the affected districts to provide shelter, clean drinking water, and dry rations.
Film Fraternity Mobilizes Relief Support
Kartik Aaryan's major donation follows relief efforts by superstar Salman Khan's non-profit organization, Being Human, which launched a phased humanitarian campaign in the state. Other prominent film personalities, including actors Alia Bhatt and Bhumi Pednekar, have utilized their digital platforms to amplify verified donation links and raise public awareness for flood relief.
