CHENNAI: Actress Rashmika Mandanna recently turned emotional and expressed profound gratitude after officially being announced to play the legendary Carnatic music icon M.S. Subbulakshmi in her upcoming biographical film. Titled M.S - A Legacy On Screen, the pan-India project was formally launched on the 110th birth anniversary of the Bharat Ratna recipient.
The grand launch event, held in Chennai, saw veteran superstar Kamal Haasan grace the occasion as the chief guest to give the ceremonial first clap. He was joined by producer Allu Aravind, director Gowtam Tinnanuri, and leading lady Rashmika Mandanna.
Addressing the gathering, an overwhelmed Rashmika shared her heartfelt thoughts about stepping into the massive shoes of the legendary singer. She spoke candidly about the divine resonance of Subbulakshmi's voice, noting how listening to her renditions feels akin to sitting directly in the presence of divinity.
Expressing her sense of humility and responsibility, Rashmika said, "Amma, you chose me to be a small part of your life—for that, I am always grateful, and I always will be. When you sit and watch this, if a small smile appears on your face, I will be so happy. I will definitely give my best, I promise."
Kamal Haasan also took to the stage to laud Rashmika for accepting such a challenging part, drawing comparisons to the high-stakes pressure an actor would experience taking on an icon like Michael Jackson. He praised Subbulakshmi's timeless legacy as a true cultural unifier across India, especially in the South, for singing effortlessly in multiple languages like Sanskrit and Hindi.
Directed by Jersey fame Gowtam Tinnanuri and with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, M.S - A Legacy On Screen promises to be a moving cinematic tribute to one of India’s most treasured musical legends.
