MUMBAI — Indian equity benchmark indices rallied sharply in early morning trade on Monday, driven by a dramatic plunge in global crude oil prices, renewed foreign institutional investment, and improving global risk sentiment following diplomatic developments in the Middle East.

The 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 470.06 points during initial transactions to hit a high of 78,564.70. Concurrently, the broader 50-share NSE Nifty climbed 150 points to trade above the key psychological mark at 24,532.95.

Top Gainers and Dragging Stocks

Buying momentum was widespread across major sectors. From the Sensex basket, blue-chip stocks leading the early rally included ITC, Bajaj Finserv, InterGlobe Aviation, Bajaj Finance, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and Infosys. Conversely, Sun Pharma and Maruti Suzuki faced profit-booking, emerging as the top laggards in the early session.

Crude Oil Plunge and Geopolitical Relief

The primary catalyst for Monday's market enthusiasm was a steep correction in international energy prices. Brent crude, the global benchmark, dropped 4.97% to trade near $83.56 per barrel.

Market analysts attributed the decline in oil prices to easing geopolitical anxiety after reports indicated that US-Iran diplomatic negotiations are expected to resume on Monday. The prospect of de-escalation in Middle Eastern tensions prompted global investors to unwind risk premiums that had recently boosted oil prices.

Foreign Capital Inflows and Expert View

Adding further momentum to domestic sentiment was the return of Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) as net buyers. According to provisional exchange data, FIIs purchased Indian equities worth ₹277.48 crore in Friday’s session, helping stabilize sentiment following earlier volatility.

Commenting on the market trends, VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Investments Limited, noted:

"The decline in Brent crude to below $84, alongside steady progress in the July monsoon and FIIs turning net buyers, are strong positive triggers for Indian equities."

Global Market Overview

Broader Asian markets displayed a mixed picture in morning trade. South Korea's KOSPI, Japan's Nikkei 225, and China's Shanghai Composite Index traded lower, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index tracked positive territory. Across the Atlantic, US markets concluded Friday's session higher, establishing a supportive backdrop for Asian trading.

In the previous trading session on Friday, Indian markets had ended in positive territory, with the Sensex rising 166.49 points (0.21%) to settle at 78,094.64 and the Nifty advancing 66.45 points (0.27%) to close at 24,383.60.
