CHENNAI — Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to land in Chennai on Wednesday evening before presiding over the high-level 31st Southern Zonal Council meeting at Kovalam.
According to official schedules, Home Minister Shah will depart New Delhi on a special aircraft and land at Chennai Airport around 7:40 PM.
High-Stakes Deliberations on the Agenda
The summit is expected to see active participation from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, and Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy.
Organized under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, the Zonal Council meetings serve as a key institutional platform for fostering cooperative federalism.

Inter-State Water Disputes: Coordination on river water sharing arrangements, with particular attention to ongoing friction points such as the Cauvery river and Mekedatu dam disputes.
Parliamentary Delimitation: Discussions around Southern states' concerns over future Lok Sabha seat redistributions based on population shifts.
Security & Law Enforcement: Collaborative measures to counter drug trafficking, improve border security management, and strengthen maritime security along the southern coastline.
Development & Infrastructure: Joint initiatives aimed at boosting regional IT infrastructure, industrial investment, health, education, and disaster management protocols
