KOLKATA — Jadavpur University (JU) authorities have decided to keep four of the campus's main gates closed on Wednesday afternoon to prevent operational disruptions during a scheduled rally by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
According to an official notification issued by the university administration, Gate Numbers 2, 3, 4, and 5 will remain shut starting from 4:00 PM on Wednesday.
The administrative decision follows traffic management plans announced for the RSS's 'Gerua Samman Yatra' (Saffron Honour Rally). The march is scheduled to commence at 3:00 PM from Golpark and proceed along Raja Subodh Chandra Mullick Road toward the Jadavpur 8B bus stand, where a public gathering is planned.
Because a significant stretch of Raja Subodh Chandra Mullick Road will be closed to regular vehicular movement during the rally, university officials stated that the adjacent campus gates are being closed as a precautionary and logistical measure.
"Since a section of Raja Subodh Chandra Mullick Road will remain blocked during the march, the gates opening onto that stretch will remain closed. This decision is purely linked to the road closure and traffic diversions," a senior university official clarified.
While normal academic schedules and administrative work will continue across the campus, university officials confirmed that Gate Number 1 will function as the sole access point until traffic resumes along the main thoroughfare.
